For anyone wanting to live in the romantic fishing village of Clovelly take a good look at these shots. The narrow road down to the harbour is cobbled and very narrow. No cars are allowed and anything going in or out of the village has to be pulled up or down on a sledge.
This is Ruth with her sledge loaded up with her shopping and the two girls in for the ride. Molly finds it difficult to walk all the way down to the bottom where they live. Ruth could hardly get the sledge moving. The girls had fun and the tourists passing by all laughed to see such wonderful way to get into the village with your shopping. I hate Clovelly and refuse to go down there any more. If it has been raining those cobbles are deadly!!
Ruth loves living in Clovelly as there is such great supportive community. It's not for me!!
Well, bless Ruth's heart. Just so interesting that they haven't built a road for cars. But you know, if she's happy that's really all that matters, isn't it?!
hehe......our Pirate group performed there a few years ago.......fortunately we were able to take our equipment van down to the harbour front, but everyone had to catch the minibus or walk down. Very many years ago, my late dad was a furniture remover and they had to take all the furniture down on the sleds......he did swear and curse about those trips !
I must say that Ruth probably has built up a very strong heart! Good Heavens! That would be decidedly a bit antiquated for me, and I completely know what is is about it that you hate! While *interesting* for a passing tourist to see, it would take a devout old-timer to love it!
