Keeping the boardwalks out of your image is the most difficult task at Midway Geyser
Basin. In most of my previous photos you don't see it due to the ultra wide Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM Lens that was being used, but in the photo I made the boardwalk a point of interest so you get a feel of the area. Because the bacterial mats in this area are very sensitive, especially around Grand Prismatic Spring, people must stay on the boardwalks.

Fantastic capture. I love the lines of the boardwalk and the steam rising up in the background. The blues of the sky and water are gorgeous and that low cloud formation well it looks like you can reach out and touch it. Instant fav
A MUST to view on black. It's an absolutely fabulous shot - thanks for the explanation about the boardwalks - quite interesting. Love the way you caught so much and the way this is composed. Fav
Wow!! I hope you're tiring of my favs. I've loved every single one of your shots from this trip. The lines in this are terrific and that sky -- well, wow!
This was a fav for me the second I saw it. I like the incorporation of the boardwalk- it not only adds perspective, the pattern it makes through the picture is an added bonus.
Same camera, same lens. But your photos show you really know how to use this lens and I have just begun practicing so I'm a new follower, planning to study how you achieve the great effects you've gotten!
@jyokota - thanks Junko - you've got the right gear for the capture - the rest is learning the rules of composition and applying it to your own style - I look forward to seeing some of your work :)
@pdulis -- Hi Peter, I'm spending the weekend in the Smoky Mountains and tomorrow is my big lens day. I'll tag you when I find one worth posting, and I look forward to your critique. Thanks!
