Yellowstone's Old faithful erupts just as the moon is at maximum eclipse. I must admit, I was little nervous visiting this super volcano. The eruptions of supervolcanoes are thousands of times larger and more powerful than normal volcanoes. A massive magma chamber underneath Yellowstone is large enough to fill the Grand Canyon 11 times over and when it blows, it will affect the whole world to a certain extent. Yet, I sure am happy with the photos I came back with. We can thank God for every day He gives us upon the earth.

Great shot - love the contrast of the Moon against the volcano!
(I tend to erupt when people use the term 'blood moon' though - it's a dumbed down term from a media who think people are incapable of using words with more than one syllable. The correct term is 'Lunar eclipse' - blood has nothing to do with it.
I'm known for posting rants about this every time any astronomical phenomenon is reported in the media :) )

My son is a national park ranger, and he has FB friends at other parks. One of them posted this contest for Yellowstone, deadline extended until the end of this month (must mean there are few entries). There is no restriction on when the photo was taken. There are different categories, and there are guidelines for the definition of professional and amateur. There are cash prizes of $1,000. The judging is by a panel of experts.
What an opportunity, the capturing of these two phenomenal events in one place. Sobering information you've shared about the destructive potential beneath the earth. I'm glad God's the One in control.
This is a fantastic shot Peter- two shots in one.what a great time to be there. It's best not to think about the super volcano or some of the other events nature has in store for us
