Alton Mill - Beaver Knitting Mill by pdulis

Alton Mill - Beaver Knitting Mill

Opened in 1881 as Beaver Knitting Mills, it harnessed the water flow and for fifty years its employees produced fleece-lined long underwear that became famous across Canada. Today its an arts centre.
I’m glad they repurposed this wonderful building. Beautiful shot. Love the comp and the fall colors.

Your commentary leads one to wonder what all you Canadians are doing for long underwear these days.

Your title at first made me wonder why beavers would be knitting..... more of a gnawing kind! Pretty scene. Underwear must have moved on!

Wow! I know some young people who complain about the cold in South Carolina. They could use some of that fleece-lined underwear today. Nice history and lovely shot!

@mbrutus - LOL - a lot of people have cold legs :)

@maggiemae - I think the polyester micro fleece has taken over the cheaper underwear product line - whereas the merino wool base-layer has taken over the high end line (thats the one I like :)
