More Rochdale Canal... by peadar

More Rochdale Canal...

My 365 Project seems to be turning into a bit of a canal fest, but I find them irresistible.

From yesterday's shot at Sowerby Bridge Wharf, and last week's shot of Lock No 1, the Rochdale Canal meanders along the valley from Sowerby Bridge, in quiet preparation for its mammoth leap across the Pennines. This is Mytholmroyd.

The name "Mytholmroyd" is derived from Old English, and refers to a "clearing where two rivers meet". There are signs locally of human settlement dating back to 1500-1600BC. The entire village is now a designated conservation area. The canal dates from the 19th century.
I love canals too - nice processing on this shot to give it a feeling of the good old days!

I like canals too, sadly we don't have them here. A lovely peaceful way to travel.

Nice history for this shot. That bridge looks pretty steep!

Nice shot, good processing. I recognise this part of Mytholmroyd from one of my walks there. Keep on with the canal fest, I find them fascinating places.

Great channel's project. You have very interesting port buildings and you present it wonderfully.
