@ludwigsdiana Sort of a long story that came out of some very old German folklore surrounding Candlemass. If the groundhog sees his shadow it means 6 more weeks of winter. No shadow means spring is just around the corner. It’s all silliness and fun but a great tradition every February 2nd. ( Candlemas Day ). If you haven’t seen the movie “Groundhog Day” with Bill Murry and Andie McDowl I recommend you watch it. It’s a funny movie about this day.
This is the crowd that gathers on Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania. Typical to get over 3,000 people to show up for this event. Amazing considering Punxsutawney is a small town in the middle of nowhere almost. I’ve passed through the town many times but have never been there on this day. People have to show up at 3am to have a chance at seeing the groundhog. Phil makes his prediction at 7:30am.
