Peacocks - A reflection of credit crunch austerity Britian

This is Peacock's store in Arnold, Nottingham

A sad example of 'credit crunch austerity measures' Britain

Last week clothing retailer Peacocks went into administration.

The firm employs more than 400 in Cardiff and over 9,000 others across the UK. The Peacocks business operates around 611 stores and 49 concessions across Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England.

My daughters boyfriend bought his Grandma some Peacocks Gift vouchers for Christmas....they are now no longer valid

As you can see by the window adverts, this shop appears to be selling off it's stock.

I though urban B/W suited this image best

The litter bin in this scene is the subject of one of my previous shots on here

They have only just opened a new one in Hitchin to replace Woolworths. It's really very very sad...

And we keep giving away the farm. Such a sad lot, Phil! How much worse will things get before they can get better? I wonder! Another historical shot for your future generations! Your shot states more points than you realize! Well done!

@marlboromaam thanks Maggie, I didn't really understand what you meant by "and we keep giving away the farm"....I had to google the phrase...I sort of get it ...we don't use the term over here !! Anyway, many thnx for your words on my picture...it will be interesting to see what's in this location in 6 months time !

January 25th, 2012
@phil_howcroft Sorry, Phil! I will try to refrain from using my expressions. LOL! I imagine others have trouble, too!

The worst thing is they were making a profit in sales but couldn't keep up with the loan payments & the RBS of all banks called in the loan the rotters, who are they to talk !!!

Signs of the times, but a terrific shot.

..yeah, the litter bin kinda sums up the feeling here.. ( by the way - i don't mean it's a rubbish photo!)
The cusp of a double-dip recession..

A sad sign of the times, but a great shot! I'm glad you added the story because we have stores here who regularly have "Going out of Business" sales. One has been going out of business for as long as I can remember. It's a shame that this one really is.
January 26th, 2012
Well that's bad news on the vouchers. Is that right @happypat - outrageous!
January 26th, 2012
it's a sign of the times when the normal highstreet shops start going into administration - bit liek when Woolies went down - shocking! Still this shot might belong in a memory lane gallery some time in the future! ANother great B&W

What a shame about the vouchers. That doesn't seem right. I think gift card holders should get first crack at the merchandise. After all, they have already paid for it.
