This is a photo from a couple of weeks ago when I went on a photo walk around Nottingham with Elsie my whippet dog.
We had walked to Nottingham Trent Uni and I was taking some photos of the buildings. A lady was sat on a wall near to where I was photographing and I smiled and said hello to her. I asked if she was part of the conference taking part at the university (she was wearing a lanyard that suggested she was).
Hang is from Vietnam and was attending the conference as a representative of RMIT University Vietnam, who are part of RMIT Melbourne - Australia's biggest tertiary institution.
Hang had been in Nottingham for 3 days and told me she thought Nottingham was a beautiful city. After the conference had finished she was going to another conference at Liverpool.
I told Hang I was an amateur photographer and asker her if I could photograph her for my “strangers project”. She agreed and asked me how she should pose. I asked her just to look at the camera, she suggested did some shots where she was looking away.
I gave her a contact card and wished her well with the conference and her travels.
I’ve since been contacted by Hang and sent her some photos. She sent me a lovely reply when she saw the photos…
“The pictures look lovely. Definitely a great memory of Nottingham for me. I think what you are doing - street photography - is so interesting, and it made my day”
That’s it, it’s always a great experience when I get positive feedback from my photos
Thank you Hang for letting me take your photo, I enjoyed meeting you and introducing Elsie to you.
That's a great shot and how interesting to come across someone from RMIT.
I do have to challenge you on one detail, Phil. RMIT is not Australia's biggest university by enrolments. It's close: number 3 behind The University of Melbourne and Sydney University. It has a very large number of students if its overseas campuses are taken into account, including Vietnam. I used to teach there so I am quite well acquainted with it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_in_Australia_by_enrollment
I believe Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW, has the biggest campus in area, over 1,000 hectares.
Yes RMIT elevates its student numbers by including its overseas campuses in its total but for Australia it's lower. Just me being pedantic!. @phil_howcroft
