At the risk of boring @30pics4jackiesdiamond even further, here's another photograph of a bird visiting our garden.
I believe, from referring to the RSPB Book of British Birds, (other bird recognition books are available) that this rather colourful beauty is a Yellowhammer (I thought at first that it could have been a Cirl Bunting, but they are only resident in Devon). Whether I have identified him correctly or not, this is the first time I have ever seen one in our garden, in the 13 years we've lived here. Gorgeous little chap.
The yellowhammer is a passerine bird in the bunting family that is native to Eurasia and introduced to New Zealand, Australia, the Falkland Islands, and South Africa
I don't think I have ever seen a yellowhammer for real around here. That's lovely. Your photos are always an education - you are my RSPB encyclopaedia!!
I'm never going to tire of photographing the wildlife that visits the garden (I put the food out for that reason, to entice them in). I know I need to capture the Jenny Wren that lives with us, the Jackdaws and Rooks that visit, and hopefully the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker that we haven't seen for a year or so (and of course, anything new (like the Yellowhammer) that may find its way to us.
