I’ve been working from home today (still am to be truthful, but nearly finished for the day) and the weather has been foul (only benefit is the water butts are full for the first time since Spring 2018) with nigh on continuous rain.
I've made numerous cups of coffee during the morning (I try to stay off it in the afternoons) and whilst it's been pouring, I've been looking out of the kitchen window and into the back garden where we have our feeder (and others hanging off the trees). The garden has, for the last week or so, resembled an aircraft aerobatic display competition, with small passerine birds (goldfinches, greenfinches, sparrows, great-tits and blue tits) whizzing here there and everywhere; it really is a wonder that they don't collide.
For most of the day I’ve been watching an adult blue tit on the coconut fat feeder (and I only hung this on Saturday and it's nearly empty already) taking fat and disappearing up into the Magnolia tree. With the rain falling it was difficult to see where she was going but she wasn’t up there long, behind the leaves, before she was back getting another beak full of fat/seed and disappearing back into the Magnolia.
This evening whilst cooking, I noticed her repeating the process; onto the coconut, up into the Magnolia and back a second or so later to get more; taking the camera, with the 150-600mm lens fitted, I could see that on a branch above the coconut were two fledgling blue-tits and mum was delivering them fat. The rain and the leaves didn’t make it possible to photograph, but to my delight, one of the babies bravely came down to sit on the coconut and let Mum feed him/her. And, as you can see I was able to capture this moment. (both of the fledglings came down to the coconut later and I’ve posted this in my extras album).
Thanks for dropping by; appreciate your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s Poppy taking it to the TP and PP. Always appreciated.
