Memorial Flame by princessicajessica

Memorial Flame

Today was Holocaust Remembrance Day. We made our first non-essential trip into Toronto since the pandemic began in order to visit the memorial in Earl Bales Park. Pre-pandemic we went into the city regularly and none of the more local memorials are in publicly accessible spaces, so we thought it was worth it to go pay our respects. The memorial area of the park wasn't shovelled out or anything and Christopher's injured ankle wasn't up to trekking through the amount of snow we have right now, so I went out to the monument on behalf of both of us.
My camera (phone) battery died while I was out there and the area was a little hard to navigate with all the snow so I didn't get many photos, but I did manage to capture the memorial flame against the grey winter sky (it was windy, and it's a very tall monument).

At the base of column there is a plaque that says "Remember the six million victims of the Nazis, the Jewish Resistance Fighters and the Allied Armed Forces, the Righteous Among the Nations."

We will remember them.
Cool to see!

We lived in Canada for 7 years, with just 3 months in Toronto

@busylady Wow! I have never even been to the UK, but maybe someday! It's where my grandmother was from and we were looking into visiting before the pandemic hit. Hopefully we'll get back on track for it someday :-) Besides Toronto, where else did you live in Canada?
