Church : John the Baptist `s Heer Abtskerke by pyrrhula

Church : John the Baptist `s Heer Abtskerke

One of the benefits of my `` Job `` giving technique lessons is that I `ve to visit schools in villages you normally never go to. The schools are often very small to. The smallest class I did was tree (3 )children.
To this church : The village `s of Heer Abtskerke have +/- 500 inhabitants. The first church mention on this place was about 1208. In the 15/16 century they built this one. The tower exist from about 1350. The style is gothic. Restoration in 1964-`68.
Started as a Catholic church it`s now Protestant ( Nonconformist ?) and still in use.
There something special on this building, maybe not show on this pic.`s. I do to morrow one that will
Please view large , then it shows

A comprehensive collage. At first I thought it was barbed wire in the bottom centre pic but then I realised it's an espalier tree. And I can see a pond or river. This is a large church for a small village. Now you have us wondering what we'll find out in your next shot!

That's a large church for such a small village. Your collage illustrates it beautifully, and your commentary very interesting!

@glendq You can go inside on several special events and at Sunday by the service.
@quietpurplehaze In time ( years) that they was building the church the village has less than halve of to days population (inhabitants). I always wonder what spirits make they build them.
@sailingmusic you`re welcome .

@pyrrhula I find that in France a small village often also has a very large church.
