The Campveerse tower was build in the 15th century as a defend wall and entrance to the city trough the tower. In the 16 the century it became also purpose of `herberg` ( Hostel ) And, : This it still is. It suppose to be the oldest hostel in Holland. Veere was in those day`s connected with Scotland by the trade of wool.
10 % of the inhabitants came from Scotland . Many names reminds on this. It always has been a port until the sea inlet was closed by the great water defence works, after the flood at 1953 .
