Dunes, the hills of our country. by pyrrhula

Dunes, the hills of our country.

Dunes are hills formed by the sand on the beach and the wind. A great deal of the country is protected against flood by the sea by this thin line of dunes . So we take good care of it. Most is forbidden area . This is a view from the country side. . I just read that the highest dune hill in Zeeland is 50,81 mtr. + 166,70 feet= 55,566 yd .

(On the south east part of our country we have real hills)
Lovely shot

Are the dunes different than the dikes- or did they replace them as a more natural protection against the sea? I enjoy the shore areas here, so I have a feeling I'd like this place as well. I have some ancestry from Holland. I wonder if my forebears lived by the sea and that is how I am attracted to it- it's in the blood as we say here!

@olivetreeann The dunes is a natural protection and liable to weather conditions. ( Storms destroy them.) To be save we make dikes on the weak spots . (sea dikes) Inland we have dikes to protect us for rivers and around reclaimed lakes and inlets. .

Weer een fav. Erg mooi. Lijkt droog te zijn aan het gras te zien. Mooi dat ene boompje, je ziet hoe de wind waait.

Very beautiful.

Its interesting to see the layout of your land, even the sand dunes

Once again I have to say how I enjoy learning about your country through your eyes. The destruction of sand dunes is a bitter environmental debate here. Lovely image with its focus on the flat foreground.
