I can see why they became associated with battle during WWI (I hope I have my history right- I am not good with dates). It does look like a field filled with drops of blood. But still a beautiful sight. Great shot!

My thoughts run back to my childhood when I first heard the story of "The Wizard of Oz". That scene was so vivid to Dorothy & her friends crossing the poppy fields to reach Oz... This could be the book illustration!
