Sharp-Shinned Hawk, I Think! by rickster549

Sharp-Shinned Hawk, I Think!

And this was the Hawk that flew down at the feeder. From what I could find, I believe that it's a Sharp-Shinned Hawk. Not one that I see very often, at all. Of course, when this guy flew by the feeder, Mr Pig bailed off and took off when it hit the ground. So no squirrels were harmed in this sequence.
Impressive looking hawk! Look at that eye and those talons!

I love that they show up so close to you - that's neat. Think I've only seen one in the backyard in all the years we've lived here.

Wow! You get them in your yard too! Wonderful shot you got! We can never tell if it’s a Sharp Shinned or a Cooper’s hawk. Super difficult to tell apart. Thank you too, for letting us know that no one was hurt in this venture.

This is my go-to reference to tell the difference between a sharp-shinned and coopers. "One of the most easily noticed differences between the two birds is that the Sharp-shinned Hawk's tail is squared off when resting, with the outer feathers slightly longer and a small cleft in the middle, and a thin white tip. A Cooper's Hawk's tail at rest is rounded, with a larger white tip" So looks like you got a Cooper's there - plus they're pretty famous for hanging around feeders.

@lynnz @milaniet @annepann @amyk @koalagardens @ludwigsdiana @elatedpixie @joannakate @not_left_handed Thanks everyone, really appreciate all of your comment's, view's and fav's. Thanks to those that also offered suggested kind of hawk. Sounds like Dawn may have a pretty good handle on it. Just wish I could have seen the front of it. Might have helped.
