Heard this one in the bushes today, and had to hunt for it. Finally found it crawling around on the leaves. Supposedly, the males have the red head during mating season. These do tend to get quite large. This one was about 8 to 9 inches long but do get larger. Glad they're not around the house or the wife would really freak out. It's bad enough with the anoles, much less something this large. :-)
I'm glad we don't see these guys running around our yards each day Our dogs would have a heyday chasing..... and probably killing,.... them. And I'd probably be the one to have to pic them up......
