Don't think that I've ever seen one of these before. But from my efforts to identify, the closest that I came was this Whip Poor will. If anyone recognizes it as something different, please let me know. Thanks.
What a cool bird! It's got to be either a Chuck-will's-widow or an Eastern Whip-poor-will, as you suspect. The range maps show Whip-poor-wills in Florida only in the winter, so I think this is a Chuck-will's-widow. I have never seen one.
