Well, it's not totally ugly, but I think this is a Golden Silk Orb-Weaver spider. It is a pretty interesting spider. You just have to pay attention to some of the trails, as it will build it web across the trail, and if your not looking, you'll walk right into it. That's when it becomes a big ugly spider. :-) Fortunately, this one was above the trail, so no problem. Not sure about the one on the left.
