OK! OK!

It looked like a dead stick! Much posturing and antennae shaking convinced me otherwise.
I love the shadows of the ants!

@casablanca Thanks Casablanca. They appealed to me too - they sort of look like little cartoon characters aping the real thing. Al these ants appeared out of that dead stick - they must have a nest in there and I accidently shook it.

Absolutely super! Wonder what they are eating...? Could also pass as a cinamon stick!

@casablanca @marcyann @cottiac Thank you for your comments. These ants make nests in all sorts of plant hidey-holes. This was a dead rolled up leaf of a very large lily. They come out of there to forage for food and go back to their nest at night. They defend their nests extremely well. They do bite but don't sting - so it doesn't hurt too much if they get you!
