@casablanca Hi Casablanca - my poor baby spiders!! :) Luckily, I think they may be a bit small for this fellow. He's a frilly lizard - named because he has a frill of skin around his neck that he can make stand up to give him a (supposedly) ferocious appearance. He'll do that if he's cornered - must most often they just run away. He's quite different to a goanna - they don't have the little spines you can see here and are mush larger and their head looks a bit like a snake with a long neck. Always good to see either! Thanks for your interest. Cheers Rob
Yikes! If you're into reptiles and amphibians I'm sure he's an amazing specimen! Me, I'd be running in the opposite direction. He wouldn't even have to disguise himself I'd be gone so fast! Good shot.
Ah, a frilly lizard - how interesting! I remember seeing goannas years ago when we camped in the Whitsundays and you didn't want your ankle too close to one of them as previous daft campers had been feeding them scraps of meat and they thought all ankles were fair game with those sharp teeth! But glorious creatures. (I still think he should eat those spiders!!)
@casablanca Oh yes - goannas - the ultimate scroungers!! They are probably still on the Whitsunday islands, some of them have escaped being developed too much. Unfortunately, on the mainland a lot of them have fallen prey to the cane toads!
@granagringa Isn't that strange - they are one of the common, large reptiles over here - not at all like an iguana. They can grow to about 5 or 6 ft long ( if you count their tail) - we used to have a couple that big living on our block - but I think civilization may have got to them. We had a big one turn up at Stanthorpe last year - I'll put his photo up for you to see. He was a pretty big one!!
