These orchids are amongst the weirdest I have seen. Those little feathery strands wave back and forth in the tiniest breeze - I think they are designed to attract insects into the central part where that tongue like apparatus will then force the insect to pollinate the stigma by brushing against it.
Hi Rob, I would like you to do a photo in the style of one of my favorite Dutch painters, Ans Markus https://ansmarkus.nl/
I hope you like this challenge if not let me know. 🤗 Jacqueline
@robz She did more than people, i hope the link I sent you works. But if you’re not comfortable with it I can give you another Dutch painter.....what about Vincent van Gogh?
Hi everybody - I just had to share my excitement about this crazy orchid - Helge was right - I saw it catch a fly! The tongue like section is spring loaded and when the fly walked on it he was pushed forward and trapped between the tongue and the stigma - and I didn't have my camera with me!! Thanks for your interest and comments. Cheers Rob. @peadar@jacqbb@helstor@taffy@joysabin@joansmor@onewing@shutterbug49@fr1da@jgpittenger@golftragic
