The grape vine decorating the wall of Golden Grove Winery is one of the original vines planted by the founders of this Granite Belt winery. The Costanza family still owns and operates this thriving business but the new generation winemaker has started to change the range of grapes that they grow. Shiraz wines are now very commonplace and "old fashioned" to some extent. So some of the Shiraz vines have gone - to be replaced by varieties such as Grenache and Mourvedre. Interesting times for the family.....
Such a lovely place. Interesting about the fashion of grape varieties. I usually find Shiraz too acidic and head for Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon but neither of those are trendy modern grapes. When I worked in London in the 80s, it was really fashionable and important to taste the Beaujolais Nouveau the second it was released and rushed across the Channel to us. I can't remember the last time I saw a wine bar advertising that they would have it on the day of release.
