And quite scary too...taken on the IR camera - really and truly!!
Hi all - a big apology happening here. I was reading your lovely comments on my last image, labelled as an IR image, and when I read Chris's comment I suddenly thought - that's exactly what it looks like - an inverted image! And the info re the camera used proved it to be so. I did play with the IR camera during our trip - but the image I uploaded wasn't one of it's photos - it was indeed an inverted image from the small camera. Old age is a terrible thing!! :)
Sorry for the confusion and I've now found a small folder of real IR images from our trip. Thanks again for all of your lovely comments about the imposter on my last post!! Cheers Rob
My pal Jo drove one of these road trains for a couple of years many years ago. She is such a character and has done lots of things in her lifetime. Here she is on her 80th birthday 4 years ago. https://365project.org/onewing/365/2019-11-12
You wouldn't pick it to look at her would you that she drove one of these monsters.
@onewing How wonderful - she sure isn't the stereotype of a rough, tough, large truckie! Good on her - and she must have had a very interesting life. :)
What fun read! Your photos are fab! Which ever way they were.

Sounds young and fun.
Love this truck… fab shot
@sjc88 Hi Steve. I've never owned a "proper camera" - except for this converted one. So I don't really know how you would find it to use. I always have a bit of difficulty getting the iso and exposure right - the images can vary from being very dark to having bright blue sections! I often have to do a fair bit of fiddling afterwards to get a good result. But it is so much fun! And I'm sure that someone with a better photographic background would find it all a lot easier. Cheers Rob
@jerzyfotos Hi Jerzy. With the IR camera this is pretty much the original shot. I would have just fiddled a bit with the cropping and probably the exposure. The IR camera can produce a really wide range of results in different conditions. I'm afraid I'm not proficient enough using it to be able to predict what I'll catch until I catch it.. :)
@koalagardens Hi Katrina - so true - much better than the alternative!! And I think you reach the stage where you just have to laugh and move on..... :)
@shutterbug49 LOL Debbie - I didn't even think about it!! I knew it was from the part of the trip where I'd been playing with the IR camera and assumed that's what it was.... I was so pleased that you like the inverted images - I'm pretty besotted by some of them - just love the unexpected colour combos. Thanks so much for your lovely comment. Cheers Rob
@merrelyn Hi Merrelyn - I tried to catch one several times but they're so big it's hard to get all of it just right. This one was just a lucky fluke - it even has a hint of motion towards the back! Thanks for your comment. Cheers Rob
@sangwann Hi Dione. It was just me being silly! I used an image from a section of our trip where I'd been playing with the IR camera. I didn't look at it closely enough or I would have realized it was actually an image from my normal little camera - but I'd inverted the image! If you look at it it's actually pretty obviously an inverted image!! Thanks for your comment. Cheers Rob
@johnfalconer Thanks John. I have to admit I really like both - inverted and IR images. They're just both so different. And I never really know what I'm doing with the IR camera so those images are always a bit of a raffle! Lots of fun with both. Cheers Rob
@helstor365 Thanks Helge - I'd tried to catch one of these several times - they're just huge and hard to get a good POV. This was a lucky catch - and the hint of motion at the back was a bonus!! Cheers Rob
@ankers70 Hi Suzanne - meeting or passing one of these was probably about the worst part of our trip. And they wobble all over the road when you have to pass them!
No problem with the mislabeling! Obviously only a few have the discerning eye to detect the difference! So, is this one actually IR? No matter what- it's pretty cool as if the truck is racing toward us! I like that slight motion blur in the picture too. Good shot!!
This made me think of the 1971 TV movie "Duel", a very early directorial effort from Steven Spielberg. Google it if you aren't familiar with it and you will understand why. Excellent composition, and I like the IR effect.
