Sounds like a plant we have called Skunk Cabbage. You do not want to disturb one of them- it's as bad as disturbing the animal they're named after!

@olivetreeann Phew - that sounds even worse than this one!! And speaking of cabbages - they are bad too - the farmer across the road grew them and left the remains to rot - phew again! :)
