Roadrunner (Greater) by rosiekerr

Roadrunner (Greater)

Native to the American southwest... a runner, not a flyer. They are small, but can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. For those who wish to read more, try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_roadrunner. Can't call it a trip to the southwest without spotting one of these.
Great shot. I would love to see one of these in person.

@pauliek This was my first opportunity to see one "close up and personal." They were much smaller than I expected! Thanks for taking a look.

Awesome, even more that I said Road Runner before seeing the title and the only one I've seen before has been in cartoons! Go figure

A lovely shot of a road runner. All I can think of is Beep Beep from the cartons!

@sweetiegal12 @swilde @ceilidh @888rachel @tosee I thought these birds would be bigger, because I was used to seeing the Warner Brothers cartoon version... they are pretty tiny. I don't know what the cartoonists were looking at when they drew the film version of this bird! Thanks for visiting.

Great shot, do these birds fly??

@nicholascronin Thank you! No, they don't fly at all (as far as I know). They just run around. The wings seem like a decoration to me. :)
