The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe

This is the front of the real "Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe" train of song fame. This is "train week." One more from my trip to the Transportation Museum. Hopefully, this full-on frontal POV conveys some of the power of this machine.

Built in 1944, Number 5011 is one of the largest non-articulated (don't ask me what that means) locomotives ever built. The cab was open, so I got to see the inside of the "driver's seat." You have to look out a side window to see what is ahead!

Sorry for the overload of transportation shots, but it is not every day one gets to photograph these historic engines.

Thanks for taking time to visit. Also, thanks for putting my lizard feet shot on the TT this week. I love lizard toes. :)
Excellent shot and processing

Impressive object of the past!

That's why the train drivers always had black faces - looking out the side window! A mighty machine!

Nice capture!

Yes, this train is a beauty! I loved the fact that you are able to get into the cab of the train. Really gives one a completely new perspective. Lovely and sharp details in this photo. Was it taken with a tripod? So clear!

@trishaford Nope, just hand-held. I am terrible with tripods. :)

Yikes! Better get off the track fast. Nice and sharp and b and w brings it out

Articulated means that the wheels are linked and move together; nonarticulated means that each wheel is moved directly by the engine.

Oooo, I'm jealous Rosie, what a fabulous famous locomotive. Love the shot. Thanks for sharing.

Wouldn't want to face that coming at me. I like the heavy industrial look to this shot. Congrats on TT! I loved your lizard!

@cejaanderson Thanks! That is very neat, that you know that. :)

What is it about an old steam engine that captures the imagination? It's like a ticket to somewhere else-the past, the future, another world with magical beings. And the b&w only emphasizes that wonderment.

I would like the opportunity to photograph some of these wonderful trains. Fabulous looking beast, beautifully presented

Does it give you pause to wonder about the people who think they can get out of the way in time and then can't.
