What a hoot of a photo. To me they're budgerigars, always called budgies, but it seems they are actually a variety of parakeet so we're all correct! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budgerigar
They're native to Australia and you see huge flocks of them in the semi-arid regions of the country. Green and yellow (like the on the left with the dark head) is the 'base' colour, the others colours are specially bred for. The boys have blue at the top of their beaks, the girls have brown - they're both capable of a decent nip of unwary fingers.
@rosiekerr Thanks Rosie. Speaking of budgies, the brief mens' Speedo bathers are often referred to as 'budgie smugglers' here, even in polite circles and newspapers. Today's bit of trivia, or should that be 'trivium'?
