This is a sculpture at the Hirschhorn Museum of Modern Art, Washington D.C. It's name really is "Big Man." He just looks annoyed to me. Sculpted by Ron Mueck, an Australian artist. It's really quite compelling, sitting off in the corner.
It has been both busy and uninspiring over the last few days, but off to D.C. for a holiday weekend with loved ones.
10/1/2020: Finished year 7 (!), with continuing gratitude towards this amazing community. Based in St. Louis, MO. Regular worker-bee and self-taught photography dilettante....
The National Gallery in Australia has a piece of his too Rosie - the skin tone & textures on a more-than life-sized pregnant woman is amazing in real life, and I totally agree that 'compelling' is the right description. https://nga.gov.au/mueck/
This is such a vivid sculpture. It's compelling to me in the sense that I keep returning to it. He doesn't look like a happy camper stuck in that museum corner! Enjoy your weekend!
That is an incredible sculpture, I agree with you in that it is very compelling in it's raw realism. He is a big man but there are a lot of real people even bigger!
