I had a look through my albums to see how long Quackers have been coming to our garden and discovered that the first time they came was 8 April 2013 (Steve's birthday) and last year they first appeared on 28 February so this year they must have decided to come at a date in between. As soon as I saw them, I opened the front door and called them and Mrs Quacker came waddling up first while Mr Quacker (who is much more shy) stood further down the lawn and quacked. I think he was worried that his wife is too trusting but she knows that I only give her some nice duck food. After I gave her the food, I had to find a bowl to give her a drink to wash it down. I am a softie! Last year they had a load of little quackers walking down the path towards the river but they weren't born in our garden despite me providing them with a nice big wooden box complete with bedding!
You have duck visitors too Rosie....marvellous how they come back each year to the same hand that fed them the year before! Do you know where they go in the winter?
@happypat I've no idea but think it may be down to the river as it's only about half a mile away. There are also plenty of ditches and brooks round here so it could be anywhere really.
@rosiekind Same here Rosie but we never see them come for food until this time of the year....you would think they would come all the time if they were in the area....must ask my nephew who works for the RSPB.
