I had the privilege of meeting this beautiful young Bat-eared Fox. She is the sole survivor f a litter of five cubs. Although she is free to wonder off, she spends a lot of time at the home of the people who raised her.
Some facts about Bat-eared fox:
- The bat-eared fox is named for its large ears, which are used for thermoregulation
- The bat-eared fox is predominantly an insectivore that uses its large ears to locate its prey. About 80–90% of their diet is harvester termites.
They have also been observed consuming other arthropods such as ants, beetles, crickets, grasshoppers, millipedes, moths, scorpions, spiders, and rarely birds, small mammals, reptiles, and some fungi
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
fab info - I remember having seen these before, but certainly couldn't have said any of those facts. beautiful capture too, glad she is able to assimilate to the wild at her own pace :)
What an interesting animal- fascinating to look at but even more fascinating in what it shares with actual bats- big ears and a similar diet. I think it's quite special she still returns to her "home".
