This hut is on the Takitimu Track and to get there I passed through poled tussock area on the fringe of the bush once I reached the saddle and had climbed through the two catchment areas of wet, bogs with lush ferns and scrubby bush. From here the notes say “care is required to stay on the permitted track line”. I found this out to be very true.
