Had other plans for today but my wife asked me to take her to Senglea for this event and I have tried to capture the atmosphere of the occasion in this collage.
As has been taking place every year for as long as I can remember, yesterday, the third week before Good Friday the Archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Malta organised a pilgrimage of repentence in preparation for the Church’s most important feast, Easter. The pilgrimage, a short walk around the old streets of Senglea, was led by the delegate of the Archbishop carrying a wooden cross, followed a statue of Christ falling under the weight of the cross. This statue is venerated all over Malta and is considered as being miraculous. After the statue walked thousands of devotees who came from all over the Island.
