Like I said last Friday, I have set my mind to post some more pictures of Holy Week exhibitions. This one was at the Oratory of the Holy Sacrament in the Dominican Priory, Valletta. A big number of plates on the U-shaped table are filled with representations of apostles, popes, you name them. The speciality of these ornamental plates are that they are made of different pasta and seeds.
Every year this exhibition attracts a large number of tourists and devout who take the opportunity to visit and see the artistic work at the Oratory which is a gem of Baroque art and architecture. It has a frescoed ceiling which I had nowhere to reproduce in this collage.. Amongst the works of art are the famous painting behind the main alter by famous painter Mattia Preti as well as The Triumph of the Holy Eucharist by Alessio Erardi.
The Convent of which the Oratory forms part was originally constructed in 1571 on the design of the Maltese Architect Girolamo Cassar but was destroyed by an earthquake. It was rebuilt in the 19th century on plans by Anton Cachia
great collage (now I know how long it takes to compose one hehehe). If I had seen this earlier I would have asked you to let me use it for Michaela's project on Easter...she needed one picture of the Last Supper! hehehe
