AMERIGO VESPUCCI IN GRAND HARBOUR

The Amerigo Vespucci is a 101m long sailing ship with three masts an an engine. Built in Italy, it was launched on 22 February 1931, on the 50th anniversary of the Naval Academy's foundation.
Its role is to train future officers of the Italian Navy is basic seafaring skills. The ship also carries out the role of ambassador for culture and Italian naval tradition.
Its motto is "Not those who begin but those who persevere", a sentence attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci.
The 278-man crew is made up of 16 Officers, 72 Senior Non-commissioned Officers (NCOs), 190 Junior NCOs and Enlisted Personnel.

wonderful photo and history! That's such an impressive looking vessel, would love to see the sails up!!

@ivb @chamal Thanks. Even I would have loved to see this vessel coming into harbour with full sails, Jennifer. But alas, even though I wasn't there, I assume it came in powered by its engines.
