Communications between Malta and Gozo and Malta and Sicily by sea were disrupted because of the rough seas and some flights had to be diverted. The sky was so grey and hazy that the sky and the sea seemed as one big thing.
But the greatest tragedy was the loss of one life. A 69 year-old British tourist at Qawra got carried away by the waves whilst watching the spectacle of the fury of the waves. An emergency call immediately brought over a helicopter of the rescue squad of the Armed Forces but when he was pulled up from the water he was already dead. Efforts to save him from the land side were also unsuccessful.
In the picture is the most sheltered part of Balluta Bay.
That does look like a very angry storm. It's sad when people don't use their better judgment. Even sadder when the rescuers work so hard to save a life and are unable to- I know they take that very personally. Great capture-obviously from a safe place! I might have straightened it just a bit. But the fury of the waves is captured so well in this shot.
You really have captured the intensity of the storm
