This old hand-operated sewing machine belonged to my grandmother who died some 35 years ago at the age of 80 or so. During her time females had to know how to sew a dress and patch up cloths. This machine must be at least 80-100 years old. The two irons belonged to my dad who was a very popular tailor. When I was a very little boy I remember him warming them one a time on a kerosene stove while ironing made-to-measure suits, holding them by the handle which he would surround with a piece of cloth not to burn his hands.
Today they are well preserved at my sister’s apartment in Gozo.
Many thanks for looking and for lovely comments on the previous picture.
wow it is wonderful to see old equipment, i also had a singer sewing machine like this, i would have hated to use those old irons tho.. fabulous reflections too.
lovely picture with the reflections and the collection together. Which shaped bobbins does that sewing machine have - torpedo or little reels? I had one like that with the torpedo shape and made a lot of clothes on it, but it was second hand (or third or fourth or fifth) when I was using it.
