Chillon Castle is situated on Lake Geneve not far from Montreaux, Switzerland. It was for the most part built by the counts of Savoy in the late twelfth and thirteenth centuries. During the sixteenth century, the castle was used as a state prison and was the setting of the English poet Byron's "The Prisoner of Chillon".
The castle looks like a fairytale fantasy, but it is an authentic Medieval site - and has foundations going back to Roman times. It is an oval shaped castle pretty much of it surrounded by water. - access to the castle is via a modern bridge, which is on the remains of the old drawbridge.
The collage shows one of the towers as part of the background picture, the entry bridge and a covered walkway which joins the upper storeys of two of the castle’s towers.
Many thanks for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
Looks like a fascinating place- sort of reminds me of the monastaries of Metorea in Greece. I think I would have liked to see each one of those shots on their own- good job!
