Abruzzo Day 5. 20th April
People start crowding in the beautiful main square of Sulmona to watch the big event. Please note the fountain in the middle of the square and the little church beyond. These will play an important part in my narrative of tomorrow. Also on the right of my position - not seen in the picture – is a Roman aqueduct under the arches of which was a podium where Easter Sunday holy mass was celebrated by the local bishop. Next to this was the statue of The Risen Christ and at the end of this side of the square a small chapel.
People of Sulmona take this event very seriously. If it doesn’t work like Swiss clockwork they are afraid that the town would be hit by some serious disaster or mishap.
With all the people crowding around me to have a good view it was very difficult to take pictures. However, poking my camera lense between heads I managed to take some beautiful shots of the event even at a long distance.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
This is such an amazing shot, so many people, personally I am not happy in a crowd anymore, this would have freaked me out. so much to see though, fabulous comp
