My friends said that Saturday the moon would be closest to earth and would look bigger. So I prepared the camera for the occasion. When I saw it - it was high up in the sky - it looked the same as usual to me.
The top right shot is one of my first attempts - I liked the shot because the lens flare (I suppose) looked like a replica of the moon. The bottom left shot is one of my final captures - not too good but not too bad either.
Thank you so much for looking and for your lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
Nice series of pics. The Moon at perigee (what the media annoyingly started calling a super Moon) only appears a few percent larger than the Moon at perigee (when it is furthest from Earth).
Cool shots...I think you have to catch just as it comes up. They say that it is the same size and that it is an optical illusion that is smaller as it goes higher in the sky...I am not convinced.....someone needs to measure it...hahahah!
A few have given better answers than this, but as far as I know it's called a Super Moon because it looks larger than usual when it is rising. Unfortunately, I do not get to see it that way from my home because we live in a wooded area and the trees block the view. Maybe some evening I will venture to a less wooded area to catch a few moon shots. Nice collage!
