Shots taken on Maundy Thursday. Enlarge for best view, if you have time – thank you.
The time of the year I love most is Holy Week with all the church functions and celebrations. I love to attend the church functions and hear the gospel readings and the story of Christ’s crucifixion and rise from death even if I have heard them thousands of times. So a lot of my pictures taken when we were in Gozo are related to this theme.
In fact, we went to Rabat in the evening of Maundy Thursday to visit some Altars of Repose decorated in churches around the city. We started at St George’s Basilica where to our surprise, the procession/pageant of the Way of the Cross around the old streets of the city was taking place. We were not aware of this as these pageants/processions are always held on Good Friday. Because the Gozo Cathedral which is close by was this year holding its procession on Good Friday, the Basilica’s one was held on Maundy Thursday. These two most important churches in Rabat take it in turns to hold their Good Friday procession on Good Friday.
The left picture shows the Big – as we call it - or most important statue of the procession showing Christ on the cross with Mary and John at His feet. The bearers are waiting for the signal to start its journey around the parish. The right hand picture shows the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows as soon as it was being brought out of the church.
Tomorrow I will show you some of the beautiful Altars of Repose that we visited between Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Thank you very much for looking, all your wonderful comments and the many fav’s on yesterday’s picture. They are so much appreciated.
Joke: While in church, attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, 'Why is the bride dressed in white?'
The mother replied, 'Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life.'
The child thought about this for a moment then said,
you got super focus even though it was inside for the first photo! They look so real - almost 3D! Religion plays an important part in the lives of the Maltese and always has I suppose!
Enlarged on black, it's almost like you're there. Fantastic focus, lighting, and color on these two. You can tell from your commentary that this is a special part of your lives. Really such a rich history here.
Beautiful captures of this procession. We have them in our country too but only in the south part.
A joke for you. in return for all those funny ones of you. :
A old couple goes to bed for a sleep. The man close his eyes and heard his wife complaining. : When we where just married you always hug me. So the man turns and give her a hug. Turns back to sleep again. Them he heard his wife complaining.: you also kissed me. Turns again and give her a kiss. Back again to sleep. Then he heard her say: you also did give me a bite in my neck. He raises up and did go to the bathroom . Back into the bed his wife ask him: why did you go to the bathroom ? . To get my tooth`s , he replay.
