The second stop for the 6th day of our holiday was Hohenwerfen Castle which lies on a craggy rock pillar 155 metres above its surroundings. It was less than half hour’s drive from the Ice Cave. Nothing exceptional with the castle that we hadn’t seen before. This is a shot of the tower from the castle courtyard. The tower has a bell and a magnificent 360 degrees panorama over the surrounding countryside. I presume the bell was there to warn serfs and farmers in the vicinity of imment danger from enemy attacks.
We had a young guide to take us around the castle. I asked him to ring the bell for me while I take his photo. He was kind enough to oblige. See insert.
Many thanks for your views, comments, and FAV’s. They are very much appreciated.
Beautiful shot and insert. Beautiful building too.
Last week I`ve visit our old church tower. I was permitted to try to loud the bell. It was a hell of a job. There is an rope on a wheel so you can loud it from the ground. I was upstairs and have to swing the wheel .
Great photo! I smiled when I read your comments that there was nothing exceptional about the castle. For an American like me, it looks pretty exceptional!
