“Il-baħar żaqqu ratba u rasu iebsa”. We have this Maltese saying about the sea. Literally this means that the sea has a soft belly but a stubborn will. And that goes as a warning to all those who think they can meddle with the unforeseen dangers of the sea when rough.
This lady – a tourist, for sure – is one of those who think the sea is harmless. We get cases of tourists daring the sea and then get carried out to sea by the receding waves and crying for help or even losing their lives because of their stupidity.
At the beach in this picture, Fond Għadir, there is a Rescue Team during the day but that is only during the Summer months. Shot taken last week.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs. Always much appreciated.
Definitely stupidity. I have a friend who is an air sea rescue helicopter winch man and he is the person who has to pluck the bodies of both lucky and unlucky people out of the ocean.
So stupid -- not only endangering her own life but the lives of the rescue team !!But a great diptych to show the beauty and the power of the sea , Super images Dione ! fav
Crazy woman! I am a sailor, so I respect the sea but many people do not understand its speed or power or the suddennes with which it can change conditions or produce a freak wave.
Great collage paired with the saying you quoted. I am repeatedly surprised by the decisions I see people making, and I am sure they are also surprised by the decisions I make :)
We have saying-- they haven't got the sense they were born with, I think this applicable to the above, and sadly we have the same scenario to often on my Island. Great capture.
I read and hear of too many people losing their lives or mobility for being either totally stupid or trying to be a show I'am very leery when it comes to the sea and would rather watch it than going in.
It's a good thing that she had the railing to hold onto ...but from the size of that wave, she should definitely have well gotten away before it arrived. That said, you certainly got a nice diptych to show the action!
