A final shot from Qormi. I posted other shots on FB these last days.
This is one beautiful balcony was built not very long ago – the house bears the date 1983. Apart from the aluminum frames of the windows which to me are not in tune with the stonework, the elaborate works on the balcony show the craftsmanship of the builder. I have to admit, though, I would not want this to be my balcony, my tastes are different.
As I looked at the fine works on the stone I pondered how life has changed in Malta these last years. Until a few decades ago, the ambition of young couples was to have a pleasing house of their own with their own front door – they shunned apartments. People used to pride themselves on the beauty of their houses. Nowadays, people work much harder – very often seven days a week – and are prepared to live in tiny apartments in apartment blocks paying high rental rates. Greedy developers just pull down beautiful houses to build plain blocks of apartments without any consideration for the beauty that was Malta. And this with the blessing of the responsible authorities. And this is ongoing in and around Sliema where I was born, have been brought up.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2019 TO ALL MY FRIENDS. MAY THE NEW YEAR BRING WITH IT LOTS OF LOVE AND HAPPINESS TO ALL.
So very ornate , but the date spoils it for me ! I agree with your sentiments - I think it is the same world over !! On a happier note ,may I wish you and the family ,health and happiness in the Hew Year - keep entertaining us with your photography Dione :)
Everything you described about overdevelopment is happening in Seattle as well. The boxes being built are hideous. Your pov of this balcony shows off its ornate design. Happy New Year, 2019, to you and your family, Dione!
