Was experimenting outside this afternoon. Tried spot metering to capture my model correctly exposed, but blow out the background to white, but in doing so also managed to lose half her scruffy hair so she looks ugly in that shot. Clearly that's a technique that needs a lot of practice to get it right, so we'll just go with this for now.
@bf2016 Thanks Barbie. That might well be a good exercise for me to learn - would have to try it in Lightroom as I don't have photoshop but I'm sure I can use the paintbrush tool to paint over the doll. But in addition I will continue trying to get it right in camera as well. I'm hopeless at people photography, so maybe getting confidence and learning on dolls is the way to go
