Random Stranger

No photos today as I was busy all day, and then had a camera club committee meeting this evening. So here is one of my shots from tomorrow taken at the harbour - a young man sitting outside the little scruffy engineering works at the harbour side, taking his tea break. I asked him if I could take his photo - said I was a beginner and trying to learn how to photograph black people. He was very happy with the results in the LCD screen so I think I will print it and take it to him tomorrow
Super shot - he looks really young but I'm not great on telling ages of people of colour

@cottiac Thank you. I think he is really young. He seemed very shy and uncertain

It's a great shot - you are so good at portraits! I'm sure he would love a copy. Great composition using "landscape" rather than "portrait"

@narayani Thanks Narayani. I am finding, that much to my surprise, I am actually enjoying portraits. I did take the "portrait" orientation as well, but decided I liked the space allowed by the "landscape" orientation, even though the portrait one is technically more correct as the eyes then fall on the thirds lines as per the "rules". In this one the eyes are on the half way line, but I prefer it anyhow.

VML this and I think you're absolutely right about landscape orientation, am delighted in particular that the space on his LHS is blank and black. I hope he likes the photo as much we do. I imagine he'll de delighted to receive his own copy.

@s4sayer Thank you Margo. I didn't get back there today with his print, but in the meantime I cloned out some of the pimples that are showing up white on his skin, and also added some catchlights to his eyes to make them look more alive

Wonderful portrait! I have a lot to learn when it comes to editing....what do you use to add catchlights?

@beckyk365 Thanks Becky. I used LightRoom. I'm not a very advanced user yet, and not certain the catchlights are correct for the lighting - but it does look more alive and a non photographer wouldn't notice
