Went to the golf course club house to buy a take away meal for an extremely reasonable price. Sometimes cooking for one seems quite burdensome, and a takeout steak and chips with onion rings for only R40 seems like a good option occasionally - all I need to add is a bit of salad.
@365anne Thanks Anne. I never met him before but I'm sure I will see him again in future. He spoke no English so I had to communicate in my very poor Afrikaans answering his questions about why I want to take a photo and what I will do with it. I don't take photos of people if they say no. Once he understood it was just my hobby and I wasn't going to earn money from it, he seemed quite happy
@narayani Thanks Narayani. Perhaps the very fact that I connect with my subjects by talking to them and asking permission to take photos is what is showing through? I always respect people if they are reluctant or say no
@777margo Thanks very much Margo. This time I plucked up the courage to ask him to move to a better background than where he was standing, and then asked him to smile for me. Maybe I will even start improving my very limited Afrikaans by trying to get a better connection with subjects as the local folk here are mostly Afrikaans speaking and some are as uncomfortable with English as I am with Afrikaans
