Dikkop Chick and Parent

The other parent is just out of the frame to the left. I have no idea how to tell which one is mommy or daddy. The owner of this yard is to be commended for leaving her front yard virtually untouched and unfenced to allow the dikkops to continue to live there and move freely. This pair have been breeding in this spot for the past decade
How lovely, I too have my old pair who have just had chicks a few days ago. The male is darker in colour than the female. In fact my one is pretty orange in comparison.

@ludwigsdiana Thanks. I will attempt to see if I can spot the difference in colouring next time I walk past this particular yard. Sometimes they are all sitting very very still and I have to stop and search to see them. Cannot believe how well camouflaged they actually are.

They are such sweet birds and SO well camouflaged!
