The Solent

For many many years a group of us have spent an annual weekend at Swanage on the south Coast. After passing through the very affluent and urban harbourside development in Poole, a chain ferry transports you to the very different world of the Isle of Purbeck, a peninsular of heathland, villages, sandy beaches, fossils, a steam railway and Norman castle, as well as the seaside town of Swanage. This photo is taken from our campsite above Swanage, with a view across the Solent channel to the Isle of Wight, about 12 miles away. The ferry is travelling from Cherbourg, France, to Poole
