A Screen of Trees

The morning sun behind young trees, almost saplings, around the nearby granite quarry, which have been planted following planning consent for an expansion to the quarry twenty years ago. The operator had to construct “bunds” of earth and spoil to screen the quarry workings, and contain dust and noise. These “artificial hills” are maybe 100 feet or more high, with extensive view over the surrounding countryside, and have been progressively planted with a mix of deciduous trees. Some of these trees are now mature, and some only a couple of years old, still vulnerable to rabbits and deer. These young trees had recently been planted when we moved into our house eight years ago.
